Prof. Torres gave us a talk about what are “global citizens” required for our future society and how we educate those “global citizens” through the education system. He argued the relationships between national and global, and education, politics and economy with examples of various counties incluing Japan. Ms. Saki Kishimoto (Master student in Curriculum Development), that attended the seminar, commented as below.
“In Japan, we have been witnessing the “global education” based on the Japanese understanding of what is required for the globalized world. However, I have not been able to clearly understand what are the necessary competencies in the “globalized” world. I learned a new perspective, “education for global citizenship”, in addition to “global education”, through this seminar. I think that there will be lots of educational practices developed based on the idea of “education for global citizenship”. The seminar let me think about the potential of “education for global citizenship”, that has just started to be developed. Professor Torres said, “Peace is the outcome of global citizenship. It was simple, but a very impressive message.”
39 people attended the seminar. Thank you very much for coming.
